Why FEVE Fluoropolymers? Fluorinated polymers provide unique properties, such as superior stability against weathering, chemicals, and microbes. The first fluorinated resin for paint application FEVE – the copolymer of fluoroethylene (TFE or CTFE) with vinyl ether (FEVE 1971) – is the third generation of fluoropolymers; which followed first- generation fluorinated thermal plastics such as: polychlorotrifluoroethylene (Aclan, PCTFE), polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon PTFE, 1943), and polyvinylidene fluoride (Kynar, PVDF, 1961), and second-generation fluorinated elastomers such as: Kel-F (VDF-CTFE, 1954), Viton (VDF-HFP 1958) and perfluoroelastomer (Kalrez, 1968). The main component in MiracleCoat® FEVE resins, is CTFE, which provides superior stability against UV exposure, weathering, chemicals, and microbes. The functional groups in MiracleCoat® FEVE resins provide functionality, such as cure sites for crosslinking, solvent solubility, and pigment dispersion. Paints by MiracleCoat® resins can be cured with isocyanates to form fluorinated polyurethanes under ambient temperatures. They also can be cross-linked with amino-resins under reduced-temperature baking processes. Waterborne MiracleCoat® FEVE resins are cross-linkable either with isocyanates or amino-resins. CTFE in polymer chains of MiracleCoat® allow for superior water and oxygen barrier properties and provide excellent corrosion protection for coated metals. The high fluorine content in MiracleCoat® resins supplies coated surfaces with excellent self-cleaning properties due to its low surface energy. Vivid color is due to the amorphous nature of MiracleCoat®, which provides excellent optical transparency and a high refractive index. MiracleCoat@ does not support combustion. Cured films resist heating temperature under 120ºC and up to 180ºC for short duration without yellowing. Fluoropolymers are materials with low surface energies. The low surface energies provides the surfaces with non-adhesion properties. Fluoropolymers provide water and oil repellency. Soil, dirty, or pollutants are either water soluble or oil soluble. The surfaces of cured MiracleCoat fluoropolymer are stain-resistant Water is utmost important for supporting life of germ and mildew. Fluoropolymers block the water supply for growing of mildew and germs without admixing any germicide. Therefore, it is safe to human and animals. Metal corrosion requires two elements: water and oxygen. Fluoropolymer contain CTFE units, especially cured MiracleCoat, are the best known water and oxygen barrier. Therefore, they shown the best corrosion-proof property. Cured MiracleCoat is heat resistant. A cup of hot water usually will make a mark on a table. But even, boiling water on MiracleCoat painted table has no effect. It can resist 110 ºC without color change. However, a burn cigarette will soften MiracleCoat coating but, not burn it. EconomySuperior performance and durability makes FEVE fluoropolymer the ideal economical choice for all types of finishes. One kilogram of FEVE resin can cover 8-25 square meters (90-250 sq ft) of non-porous materials, such as metals, painted surfaces, primed surfaces, plastics, and certain types of ceramics and stone with a protective layer with 15 – 35 micrometer thick. Compared with labor, the cost for MiracleCoat@ formulated coatings or paints is negligible. For porous materials apply primer to fill capillaries before applying MiracleCoat. Green TechnologyLongevity means use less resin, less solvent, and less pollution. |
